What is Error 0x8007232B?

If you have been wondering what Error 0x8007232B is really all about, it is actually a product activation error. Usually it will mean seeing in your screen a dialog box which says “The following information was found for this error: ” Then it will show this error code and the description would be “DNS name does not exist.” This description is rather going to confuse the user because it completely has nothing to do with the DNS name or the DNS server. Rather, it occurs because the key management server (KMS) could not be found in your DNS server located in the server where your computer is connected such as your company server or in one of the activation servers where your computer is linked.

This 0x8007232B error is not only found in a particular version of windows operating system, it can actually be found in many other versions such as Windows XP, Windows 7, Server 2003, Server 2008, Vista, etc.

Because this problem can be very irritating, you might have thought of fixing 0x8007232B error yourself. While many would probably want to contact Microsoft itself for it, others would be discouraged because it usually means being hooked to the telephone for a while (like an hour or two). So maybe after all, fixing it yourself would be your resort, then how are you going to fix a 0×80070017 problem?

How to Fix 0x8007232B

You will need prepare to key in your product key for your operating system and key it in again using the “change key” button. If you could not find this button, the following steps are all you have to do:

Go to All Programs, select Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator

If you are not logged in as administrator, your computer will ask you to type in your administrator password.

Type in slmgr.vbs –ipk followed by the MAK product key of your operating system like this: slmgr.vbs -ipkxxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx on the command line. Make sure you have typed in the correct product key before you hit the enter key.

If you have activated your operating system successfully, you will get an activation message.

In case the method given above does not work in fixing 0x8007232B:

verify that the KMS server is installed and registered by doing the following steps:

Go back to the command prompt as indicated above and type in nslookup -type=all _vlmcs._tcp>kms.txt

Access the KMS.txt file and make sure that the data you see is the same as the values below:

 _vlmcs._ tcp.yourdomain.com

SRV service location:

priority = 0

weight = 0

port = 1688

svr hostname = kms-server.yourdomain.com

If you see _vlmcs, it means that the KMS server is running and is registered with the DNS server. This contains an undefined value that causes it to be registered every 24 hours. You should be able to login and begin using the product at this point. If you are a home user, the entries are the same but you still are not able to activate your operating system, you will have to call Microsoft for an activation code that you can type in for the operating system to activate.

If the text file however contains values that are not similar to the ones given in step number 2, it means you will have to contact the network administrator and inform him of the 0x8007232B problem.

This post was most recently updated on December 11th, 2018Windows 7 activeren: DNS name does not exist (0x8007232b) Sinds een ruime week gebruik ik Windows 7 Enterprise (64-bit).
