There is however a command line tool that allows that.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Remember that unregistering important services may break your system. If you aren&#8217;t sure what you&#8217;re doing &#8211; don&#8217;t. You have been warned.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/images\/services\/services_1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"125\" alt=\"services_1\" width=\"240\" align=\"left\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/media\/images\/services\/services_1.png\" \/><\/a> First you need to check real name of the service (not it&#8217;s display name). To do this go to Control Panel&#8211;>Administrative Tools&#8211;>Services, and find the service you want to uninstall. Right click it, and choose &#8220;Properties&#8221;. Then, on the &#8220;General&#8221; tab, find &#8220;Service Name&#8221;. For example for service on the screenshot it&#8217;s WLSetupSvc.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Next go to command line and run command &#8216;sc&#8217;, it will enumerate its options. This is the tool, that we&#8217;ll use to uninstall the service. To do this type<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>sc delete <em>SERVICENAME<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/images\/services\/services_2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"107\" alt=\"services_2\" width=\"240\" align=\"left\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/media\/images\/services\/services_1.png\" \/><\/a> If everything goes fine, you&#8217;ll see command similar to second screenshot, and you&#8217;ll computer will continue working.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Run the following from a Dos prompt:<\/p>\n<p>instsrv \u201c%servicename%\u201d &#8220;c:\\%path to file%\\srvany.exe&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Now go to services and find \u201c%servicename%\u201d<br \/>choose Properties<br \/>In the Description type &#8220;maak een description\u201d<br \/>Choose logon mode, and set an account to it for example &#8220;Administrator&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Click Ok<\/p>\n<p>Click on Start and type Regedt32 > Ok > Find<br \/>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\%servicename%<br \/>Click Edit > Add Key and type Parameters, click OK<br \/>Double click on Parameters > Edit and choose Add Value<br \/>Add Value = Application<br \/>Data Type = REG_SZ<br \/>click Ok<br \/>String = %filename to start as a service%<br \/>click Ok<\/p>\n<p>Double click on Parameters > Edit and choose Add Value<br \/>Add Value = AppDirectory<br \/>Data Type = REG_SZ<br \/>click Ok<br \/>String = c: > click Ok<\/p>\n<p>Go to services again and Start the service \u201c%servicename%\u201d<br \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This post was most recently updated on December 11th, 2018\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Tool for managing windows services in Windows XP allows you many things, but you can&#8217;t unregister (delete, remove) a service with it.
